Bacfree pioneered rainwater harvesting systems in Malaysia, thanks to Dr. Chee Chung Yee's vision and growing eco-awareness. Under Dr. Chee Chung Yee's leadership, modern practices fueled regional growth. Today, Bacfree is a trusted name across Southeast Asia in household, commercial, and industrial water filtration.

  • 1980s

    It all started with a crazy idea

    Mr Chee Sze Hsien first introduces water filters to Malaysia.
    Bacfree grows to become a leading supplier of various household
    filtration systems.

  • 1990s

    Shaping an entire industry

    Bacfree becomes a leading solutions provider for commercial and
    industrial water filtration and treatment systems, as well as
    centralised whole-building systems.

  • 2000s

    Leading to another crazy idea

    Bacfree pioneers rainwater harvesting systems (RWHS) in Malaysia.
    Today, Bacfree is the market leader and sole distributor of WISY AG
    of Germany, one of the world’s leading names in RWHS.

    Received the Brand Laureate Award

    Bacfree received the award for "Best Brand in Water Filtration
    Technology in The Asia Pacific"

  • 2012

    Received the HOMEDEC "Quality Award"

    Received the HOMEDEC "Quality Award" for the Bacfree Rainwater
    Filter Collector. Received the Archidex "Green New Product" Award
    for Vortex Fine Filter. Received the Archidex "New Product" Award
    for Pump Buddy.

    Bacfree continues to grow steadily

    It is the first water filtration company in Malaysia to receive ISO
    9001:2008 (SIRIM/UKAS). After 30 years with continuous product development and talent
    engagement.

    Awarded ESG SIRIM 55 Certification

    In 2025, BACFREE was proudly awarded the SIRIM 55:2023 ESG
    Management Systems Certification — a prestigious honour granted to
    only five SMEs across Malaysia. This milestone marks our brand’s
    bold shift toward sustainability-led innovation, reinforcing our
    commitment to responsible business practices and future-forward
    water solutions.

    Bacfree continues to chart new waters

    Bacfree continues to be a key influencer in
    the RWHS industry, consulting with the Malaysian Housing Ministry to
    develop industry standards and best practices. The Bacfree R&D Lab
    is set up to develop new products and technologies - maybe even the
    next crazy idea.
